About the position

As a Nursing Professional Development Specialist at Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital, you will play a crucial role in the education department, focusing on the clinical and professional development of nurses throughout their careers. This position involves developing, implementing, and sustaining educational programs that enhance the quality of care provided by nursing staff, ensuring positive patient outcomes. The role requires working night shifts and emphasizes collaboration within a team dedicated to patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement and evaluate nursing orientation and ongoing professional development of nurses.
  • Design, direct, implement and evaluate educational offerings based on the knowledge, skills, and learning levels of nursing caregivers.
  • Identify the learning needs and desires of nursing personnel.
  • Develop and utilize appropriate evaluation systems to determine the effectiveness of educational activities.
  • Consult with individuals within nursing and the community regarding professional nursing practice and roles.
  • Assist in the development of department-specific orientation and competencies.
  • Assist departments in caregiver orientation.
  • Develop and maintain a cataloging system for tracking and retrieval of all available teaching-learning resources.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN).
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Two years of recent nursing experience with demonstrated clinical expertise, including clinical nursing experience, preceptor, BCLS instructor, or ACLS instructor.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of education methodology, such as needs assessment, curriculum development, instructional design, and principles of adult learning.
  • Presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or a master's degree in nursing (MSN) with a non-nursing bachelor's degree.
  • Certification in a specialty.
  • Recent med/surg clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated understanding of behavioral health patient care needs.
  • Passion for educating nurses and unlicensed caregivers.
