About the position

At BioLife Plasma Services, a subsidiary of Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Ltd., the role of Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) is crucial in supporting plasma center operations. This position is centered around the collection of high-quality plasma, which is essential for creating life-changing medicines. The Medical Support Specialist will report directly to the Plasma Center Manager and will be responsible for ensuring that all donor interactions are handled with a commitment to customer service and quality. This role involves determining donor eligibility, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and notifying donors of unsuitable test results. The Medical Support Specialist operates under the guidance of the Center Manager and the management of the Center Physician for any medical issues that arise. Familiarity with the regulations of the plasma collection industry or a manufacturing environment is essential, as is adherence to the guidance provided by BioLife Medical Affairs. Additionally, the Medical Support Specialist will provide support for environmental, health, and safety (EHS) initiatives within the center. In this role, you will be responsible for conducting medical history interviews, managing informed consent, and ensuring compliance with AIDS education and confidential self-exclusion protocols. You will also perform physical examinations, blood testing, and review Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results. Evaluating donor reactions and following standard operating procedures (SOPs) for medical emergencies is a critical part of the job. You will need to refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for guidance on unacceptable findings or medical issues, ensuring donor safety and eligibility at all times. Supporting vaccination programs for employees and managing employee incidents are also key responsibilities. In times of public health crises, you may serve as a Pandemic Coordinator, assisting with investigations related to pandemic threats as directed by EHS or Medical Affairs.

Responsibilities

  • Determine donor eligibility, including informed consent management and medical history interviews.
  • Evaluate donor reactions and follow SOPs for medical emergencies.
  • Refer to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs for unacceptable findings or medical issues.
  • Support Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs for employees.
  • Manage employee incidents and determine the need for further evaluation by occupational health/ER.
  • Act as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized by EHS.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, including completion of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements.
  • Currently licensed or certified in the state where responsibilities will be assigned: EMT-Paramedic.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and AED certification.
  • Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy in the state of licensure.
  • Satisfactorily complete the FDA approved training requirements for BioLife Medical Support Specialist.
  • Two years of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.
