About the position

The Special Education Coordinator at YouthBuild Charter School of California is responsible for overseeing the Special Education Program, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws. This role involves collaboration with educational professionals, managing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and providing support and training to staff to meet the needs of students with disabilities. The position is full-time and is set to begin in July 2024, focusing on project-based learning and social justice within a community school setting.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with SPED site contacts to conduct IEP reviews for new participants.
• Serve as a case manager for the development, implementation, and evaluation of students' IEPs.
• Maintain contact with assigned students' parents or family and keep IEP records up to date.
• Conduct and schedule interim and annual IEP meetings and evaluations.
• Provide personalized transition folders with student IEP information for graduates.
• Consult with classroom teachers on instructional modifications and adaptive equipment.
• Conduct trainings on accommodations, modifications, and the special education evaluation process.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
• SPED Teaching Credential.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a positive attitude.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Experience in administration of assessment tools and developing individualized educational plans.
• Ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic setting.

Nice-to-haves
