About the position

Mandan Public Schools is currently seeking to hire Elementary and Secondary Special Education Paraprofessionals for the 2024-2025 school year. This position is full-time and follows the school calendar. The role involves assisting students with special education programming in school classrooms, providing support to teachers, and creating a positive learning and socialization environment for students. The essential functions of this position include working with students who have profound and complex physical, emotional, and intellectual disabilities, supervising and instructing students, and assisting with the development of individual learning plans and classroom materials. The paraprofessional will also monitor student behavior, document issues, and communicate effectively with students and staff while maintaining confidentiality. This position requires regular attendance and adherence to MPS policies and procedures. Interviews for this position will take place on July 22nd and July 23rd.

Responsibilities

  • Assist functionally disadvantaged students with educational programs and special assignments.
  • Work with students with profound and complex disabilities to help them function effectively in a group educational environment.
  • Supervise, instruct, monitor, and communicate with students to achieve learning objectives.
  • Assist with supervising students and maintaining good behavior in various settings.
  • Help students with learning tasks and Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
  • Assist in the development of individual learning plans and classroom materials.
  • Monitor student behavior and document special issues and problems.
  • Communicate pertinent information to students and staff while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Support the relationship between Mandan Public Schools and the general public.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of MPS policies and procedures.
  • Understanding of classroom procedures and processes.
  • Familiarity with methods to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Proficiency in personal computers and specialized educational software applications.
  • Skills in record keeping and file maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Paraprofessional certification from North Dakota Department of Public Instruction for Title 1 Schools.
  • Additional training and certifications may be required for some incumbents.
