About the position

The Special Education Resource Teacher at North Gibson School Corporation is responsible for working with students who have special needs, either in their regular classroom or in a designated separate classroom. This role is crucial in ensuring that students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially. The teacher will implement differentiated instruction strategies, including Three Tier Instruction, to cater to the diverse learning needs of students. This involves creating engaging lessons and instructional materials tailored to individual student needs, as well as administering frequent assessments to monitor student progress and make necessary instructional adjustments. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Special Education Resource Teacher will analyze data from assessments to evaluate student work and social growth, keeping appropriate records and preparing progress reports. Collaboration with other alternative education staff is essential to enhance the educational experience for students. The teacher will also hold parent conferences to discuss academic achievements and behavioral issues, ensuring that parents are involved in their child's education. The position requires maintaining a safe and conducive classroom environment, supervising students during various activities, and attending professional development sessions to stay updated on best practices in special education. The teacher must possess a strong understanding of state standards, general education curriculum, IEPs, and behavioral interventions, along with excellent organizational and communication skills. A Bachelor's Degree and a valid Special Education Teacher License are mandatory for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Implement differentiation instruction, including Three Tier Instruction, whole group and flexible small grouping of students.
  • Administer frequent assessments to evaluate students' continuous progress.
  • Analyze data; evaluate student work and assessment data to make instructional adjustments, evaluate social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Analyze classroom literacy strengths and weaknesses to formulate plans for improvement of student achievement in reading.
  • Work collaboratively with other alternative education staff.
  • Prepare rigorous, engaging lessons and other instructional materials to meet the individual needs of all students.
  • Provide direct, explicit comprehension instruction.
  • Attend all professional development, including training that may occur during the summer.
  • Maintain control that is conducive to classroom and campus safety.
  • Hold parent conferences regarding academic achievement and behavioral issues.
  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by the school.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring students' behavior and activities in the classroom, on the campus, and during school events.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Must hold a valid Special Education Teacher License.
  • Working knowledge of state standards, general education curriculum, IEP's, behavioral interventions, and NGSC curriculum framework.
  • Excellent organization and communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt material.
