About the position

The Special Education Teacher position at Edison Middle School within the Champaign Unit 4 School District is a full-time role dedicated to supporting students with emotional disabilities (ED). The mission of the district is to positively transform learning and life outcomes for students through educational justice, equity, and excellence. The teacher will be responsible for creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment tailored to the unique needs of students with special educational requirements. This includes developing individualized education plans (IEPs), collaborating with parents and other educators, and implementing effective teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and achievement. The role requires a valid Illinois Professional Educator License with a Special Education Endorsement. The teacher will work closely with students, providing both academic and emotional support, and will be expected to maintain a positive classroom atmosphere that fosters learning and personal growth. The position also involves assessing student progress, adapting instructional methods, and participating in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the Special Education Teacher will engage in ongoing communication with families and guardians to ensure they are informed and involved in their child's education. The teacher will also collaborate with other staff members to create a cohesive educational experience for all students, particularly those with special needs.
