About the position

The Special Education Teacher is responsible for creating an educational atmosphere that fosters the intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological growth of students with special needs. This role involves organizing and implementing an instructional program that maximizes the learning experience for these students, focusing on academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities. The teacher will utilize district-approved curriculum, document teaching and student progress, and address the specific needs of each student to provide a safe and optimal learning environment. In this position, the teacher will prepare comprehensive lesson plans and instruct students according to established curriculum and individual student needs. They will assess student performance, develop and evaluate daily lesson plans, and modify instruction as necessary to meet the diverse needs of each child. The teacher will also prepare teaching materials and related reports, implement a developmentally appropriate integrated curriculum, and establish a positive learning environment through differentiated instruction. The teacher will utilize classroom management techniques to maintain organization and safety, plan and implement instructional techniques to motivate students, and use data to inform program effectiveness. Communication with parents is crucial, as the teacher will inform them of student progress, activities, and methods to reinforce classroom goals at home. Collaboration with specialists, general education teachers, and community agencies is also a key aspect of this role, aimed at improving student outcomes and planning curriculum effectively. Additionally, the teacher will support students' academic, social, and daily living skills, and participate in various meetings to discuss and evaluate student issues and achievements.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare thorough and complete lesson plans and instruct students in accordance with established curriculum and student need.
  • Assess student needs and performance. Develop, implement and evaluate daily lesson plans, to include scheduled activities and materials. Modify instruction to meet the needs of each child.
  • Prepare teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  • Implement a developmentally appropriate integrated curriculum design which emphasizes building meaningful content connections for the students.
  • Establish a positive learning environment, prepare, deliver and respond with differentiated instruction to meet the needs of students.
  • Plan, organize and display classroom materials appropriate to curricular activities.
  • Use and implement classroom management techniques to maintain organization, orderliness, student safety, and a productive learning environment.
  • Plan instruction and implement instructional techniques to encourage and motivate students.
  • Use data to inform program effectiveness and student success. Document progress on student goals and share with families a minimum of quarterly.
  • Use technology to enhance learning.
  • Evaluate students' performance regarding achievements in curriculum and activities. Make necessary provisions to meet learning needs.
  • Promote positive relations with parents through ongoing communication and conferences.
  • Inform/Advise parents and/or legal guardians of student activities, progress, attendance, areas for improvement and methods for reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
  • Ensure parents and students are informed of methods of evaluation used in the classroom.
  • Participate as a member of an instructional team to develop and promote learning activities for students that is built on an integrated continuum curriculum, consistent with district and school education objectives.
  • Collaborate with specialists and general education teachers as needed to assist students.
  • Direct student workers, teacher assistant and classroom volunteers to maximize their efficiency and meet work requirements.
  • Participate in a variety of meetings including professional learning communities to discuss, share, evaluate results, problems, success stories and to plan ways to solve student issues or increase student achievement.
  • Report incidents (e.g. fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse, etc.) in order to maintain personal safety of students, provide a positive learning environment and adhere to Education Code, District and/or school policies.
  • Collaborate with school personnel, parents and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  • Support student needs: academic, social, daily living skills, motor, and communication.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit, school and district.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Standard or Alternative Special Education Arizona Teaching Certificate

  • $3500.00 Hard to Fill Stipend
  • Salary range: $47,180.88 - $51,484.75
  • 9 Month Contracted Regular Position
