The Special Education Teacher for Science (grades 7-12) is a certified position within the Exceptional Education Department at BOCES Smith School. This full-time role spans 10 months and is designed for educators who are passionate about providing engaging, inquiry-based instruction in high school Earth Science, Biology, and Chemistry. The teacher will implement the New York State Next Generation Standards while working with students in the Turning Point and Springboard high school programs, which cater to students with learning, emotional, and behavioral disabilities in an 8:1:1 classroom setting. In this role, the teacher will have the autonomy to prioritize content, design curricula, and create laboratory experiences that meet the diverse learning needs of students. Responsibilities also include case management duties for homeroom and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), which involve progress monitoring and maintaining student records in compliance with State and Federal regulations.
