About the position

Spectrum High School is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. This position is crucial for supporting our middle and high school students with diverse learning needs. As a Special Education Teacher, you will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student. In addition to teaching, you will assess students' progress and adapt instructional methods to accommodate different learning styles. You will also provide guidance and support to students in developing their social skills and self-advocacy. The role requires a strong understanding of special education laws and regulations, as well as a commitment to ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in the field. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers to support inclusive classroom practices.

  • Provide guidance and support to students in developing social skills and self-advocacy.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Maintain accurate records of student performance and IEP documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Valid Minnesota teaching license in Special Education.
  • Strong understanding of special education laws and regulations.
  • Experience working with middle and high school students with diverse learning needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team of educators and support staff.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Special Education or related field.
  • Experience with co-teaching models.
  • Knowledge of assistive technology and adaptive teaching strategies.
