About the position

Harmony Hill School is seeking a dedicated full-time Secondary Education Teacher, ideally with dual licensure in Special Needs, to work with high-school age youth. The successful candidate will hold an active Rhode Island certification and will be comfortable teaching a diverse range of subjects including English, History, Science, and Leadership. A key aspect of this role involves modifying the curriculum to meet the varied needs of students, particularly those with challenging behaviors. The teacher will be responsible for preparing and implementing a comprehensive educational teaching plan that aligns with the school's requirements. This position is fundamental in providing knowledge and instruction to students while also fostering their personal and academic development. The ideal candidate will be passionate about education, capable of building trusting relationships with students, and skilled in creating an organized and engaging classroom environment. The overarching goal is to cultivate students' interest in education and support them throughout their learning journey.

Responsibilities

  • Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning
  • Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning
  • Create and distribute educational content (notes, summaries, assignments etc.)
  • Assess and record students' progress and provide grades and feedback
  • Maintain a tidy and orderly classroom
  • Collaborate with other teachers, parents and stakeholders and participate in regular meetings
  • Plan and execute educational in-class and outdoor activities and events
  • Observe and understand students' behavior and psyche and report suspicions of neglect, abuse etc.
  • Develop and enrich professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences etc.

Requirements

  • BS or BA in Education or related field
  • Education licensure through the Rhode Island Department of Education
  • Proven experience as a teacher
  • Thorough knowledge of teaching best practices and an ability to modify curriculum to meet individual student needs
  • Excellent communicability and interpersonal skills
  • Well-organized and committed
  • Creative and energetic
  • Strong moral values and discipline
  • Proper certification in subject area
  • Successfully completing the Harmony Hill School training program
