About the position

The New America School (NAS) is a system of public charter high schools dedicated to serving a unique population of recent immigrants and their families, as well as children who want to learn or perfect their English and earn a high school diploma. The school also caters to non-traditional students and traditional students seeking a more personal atmosphere that fits their learning needs. As a Special Education Teacher at NAS, you will play a crucial role in empowering students through education, ensuring that every individual has access to quality education and personalized learning experiences. The school is committed to fostering a nurturing environment where all students can thrive, grow, and achieve their full potential together. In this position, you will be responsible for creating a positive classroom culture and climate, practicing effective classroom management, and planning and implementing masterful content delivery. You will also be expected to demonstrate essential knowledge of students and utilize data effectively, engage in high-impact instructional moves, and collaborate with students and colleagues. Continuous reflection, learning, and development are key components of this role, as is maintaining a growth mindset. The physical demands of the job include the ability to walk quickly, bend, kneel, crouch, sit, stand, grab, or hold with one or both hands. You should be able to lift up to 40 lbs without difficulty and maintain appropriate demeanor and professional behavior when working with children and adults. The role requires the ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods during the day.

Requirements

  • Valid teaching credential appropriate to their teaching assignment; all teachers will be hired based on being highly qualified per No Child Left Behind (NCLB) specifications CLDE endorsement required
  • If teaching Special Education, a current Colorado teaching license with SpED endorsement required
  • Teaching experience appropriate to the assignment
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the NAS mission
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
