About the position

The Special Services Specialized Program Paraeducator for the Bridges Classroom at James McGee Elementary School is responsible for supporting special needs students in various capacities. This role involves assisting with personal care needs, implementing behavioral interventions, and fostering a positive learning environment. The paraeducator will work closely with teachers and staff to ensure that students receive the necessary support to thrive academically and socially.

Responsibilities

  • Assist special needs students with personal care needs such as diapering, tube feeding, and toileting.
  • Implement behavioral interventions and de-escalation techniques as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with students using adaptive communication devices.
  • Follow supervisory directions and employ personal initiative when necessary.
  • Maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with staff, students, and patrons.
  • Complete annual required training hours for Para Certificate hours.
  • Perform playground duties and/or office tasks as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Associates degree or higher, or 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at the 100 level or higher, or passing the Educational Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment.
  • Demonstrated exemplary customer service and responsiveness.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and work effectively with staff, students, and patrons.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and an excellent work attendance record.
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative working relationships.
  • Ability to follow safe work practices and procedures.
  • CPI trained or willingness to be trained.
  • Ability to assist with toileting needs, diapering, lifting, tube feeding, catheterization, and other forms of assistance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual/Biliterate Spanish/English.
  • Experience working with special needs students.
  • First aid card preferred.
  • Knowledge of elementary subject matter.
  • Willingness to study materials provided by supervisory personnel and/or take college classes to improve basic instructional skills.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $21.67 - $23.74 per hour, with additional pay for higher degrees.
  • Work schedule includes 6.75 hours per day, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday, and 5 hours on Wednesday.
