About the position

The role holder will be responsible for shaping GBS India Culture and Conduct through protecting the Bank against employee-related risk. As a member of the Country Employee Relations (ER) teams, the role holder will ensure that the relationship between the GBS and its employees is managed appropriately within the Group ER framework, underpinned by clear procedures, policies, and relevant employment law. The role holder will provide country leadership support, advisory, and guidance regarding ER matters such as Disciplinary, Grievance, Performance, Redundancy, and Case Management, while effectively managing key external stakeholder relationships with legal firms and local labour departments. The role holder is also responsible for maintaining positive employee relationships and ensuring compliance with employment laws and the Group ER framework.

Responsibilities

  • Shape GBS India Culture and Conduct by protecting the Bank against employee-related risk.
  • Provide leadership support and advisory on ER matters including Disciplinary, Grievance, Performance, Redundancy, and Case Management.
  • Translate country legislation and regulation into pragmatic actions for country GBS teams.
  • Build external networks and stay updated with legislative changes.
  • Collaborate with country HR L&C and external legal firms for advice on local laws and ER policies.
  • Maintain effective communication with local labour ministries on ER matters.
  • Manage Disciplinary, Grievance, Redundancy, and Performance Management Standards end to end.
  • Identify, assess, and monitor country ER process risks.
  • Anticipate and minimize employee-related risks by understanding employee trends and employment law.
  • Ensure compliance with ER Standards in respect of Disciplinary, Grievance, Redundancy, and Performance Management.
  • Display exemplary conduct and adhere to the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
  • Lead to achieve outcomes set out in the Bank's Conduct Principles.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years' work experience as a qualified employment lawyer or ER specialist.
  • Understanding of local legislative and regulatory policies.
  • Strong networking skills and a proven track record of influencing at an organizational level.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Keen commercial awareness.

Nice-to-haves

  • Degree in HR or Law.
  • Post-graduate qualification in a business or related discipline.
  • Professional legal or HR background.
  • Experience of designing and delivering organizational development interventions.
