Responsibilities

  • Support the strategic communications needs of the state and senior management team.
  • Provide communications counsel and implement external affairs activities.
  • Develop communications materials that ensure consistent messaging and resource efficiency.
  • Manage budgets effectively across the state.
  • Advise state and local management teams on building relationships with community leaders and media.
  • Implement communications strategies for rate case filings and other initiatives.
  • Enhance the company's reputation through networking and community initiatives.
  • Execute media relations, public relations, and community relations plans.
  • Develop crisis communication plans and materials.
  • Monitor business developments and industry trends affecting the company's reputation.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure timely development of materials for state operations.
  • Support business development activities with communications efforts.
  • Establish relationships with key media and educate them on relevant issues.
  • Measure the effectiveness of media relations strategies for capital investment programs.
  • Plan and manage press and community events to build awareness of American Water.
  • Develop media materials and talking points for communications efforts.
  • Assist in the execution of Corporate Responsibilities initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, English, Advertising or related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in public relations, media relations, or community relations in a corporate or agency environment.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to produce clear and engaging content.
  • Knowledge of strategic communications and media relations.
  • Ability to engage and build relationships with stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with PR metrics and measurement.

Nice-to-haves
