The Sr. Biomedical Engineer position at Abbott is a pivotal role within the Abbott Diabetes Care Division, located in Alameda, CA. The successful candidate will independently conceive, execute, and communicate novel multi-disciplinary research or development strategies that align with project and area goals. The engineer will serve as a lead scientist on their own projects and contribute valuable scientific insights to multiple other projects, demonstrating a consistent record of accomplishment in achieving both scientific and business objectives. In this role, the engineer will plan and execute laboratory research, maintaining a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art principles and theories. They will initiate, direct, and execute scientific research and development strategies, investigating the feasibility of various scientific principles and concepts for potential inventions and products. Building productive collaborations and effective communication with other groups, both within Abbott and externally, is essential. The engineer will interact with suppliers to resolve scientific and technical challenges, assume responsibility for setting and achieving team goals, and guide the formation of research and development strategies. They will also be responsible for resource allocation, ensuring teams meet milestones, and recognizing the need for additional resources, escalating to leadership as necessary. The engineer may act as a spokesperson for corporate research and development, advising top management, and may participate in the development of patent applications. They will interface with various departments, serve as an internal consultant, and participate in lab safety initiatives, potentially leading or recommending new procedures. Maintaining accurate records of research and project activities in accordance with Abbott policies and implementing the quality system's effectiveness are also key responsibilities. Additionally, the engineer may be responsible for hiring and managing up to four junior to mid-level scientists.
