About the position

The Sr. Commercial Fire Alarm Technician at Vector Security is a pivotal role responsible for the installation and servicing of a diverse range of low voltage systems, with a primary focus on Fire/Life Safety, Nurse Call, CCTV, and Access Control systems. This position requires a commitment to providing exceptional customer service while operating effectively in a fast-paced environment. The technician will be tasked with ensuring that all systems are installed and maintained to the highest standards, adhering to all relevant codes and regulations. In this role, the technician will provide both on-site and remote support, troubleshooting various fire/life safety systems. The goal is to resolve issues efficiently, often in a single visit, while managing service tickets from start to finish. The technician will also advise clients on necessary repairs, replacements, and upgrades, ensuring they are well-informed about their options. Training clients and end-users on system operations is a key responsibility, as is maintaining accurate documentation and inventory of service parts. The position also involves participating in an on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service and may require assisting other divisions within the company, such as Commercial Access Control and CCTV. The technician must stay updated on technological advancements and maintain a working knowledge of the systems installed by the company. This role is essential in helping Vector Security achieve its mission of making the world more secure, connected, and empowered, one customer at a time.

Responsibilities

  • Provides timely and efficient support to clients and their representatives.
  • Provides on-site and remote support and troubleshooting on a variety of fire/life safety systems.
  • Performs on-site repairs when possible to resolve issues in one trip, and owns the ticket through completion if return trips are required.
  • Advises customers on repairs, replacements, upgrade needs and other options.
  • Provides training for clients and end users, and gets customer sign off.
  • Assists installation division with programming and installation when necessary.
  • Performs upgrades and alarm takeovers as needed.
  • Communicates effectively with manager and support staff by submitting all necessary documentation (part numbers, description, photos, etc.) on service tickets.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of service parts on company provided vehicle.
  • Maintains working knowledge of systems the company installs; adapts to and learns new systems as technology advances.
  • Takes part in on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service.
  • Assists in other divisions including but not limited to: Commercial Access Control, CCTV, Residential/Commercial Service, Residential Security, and Fire & Life Safety.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Field experience or equivalent education or certification
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Knowledge of all NFPA codes and standards (fire, elevator, HVAC and electrical) and common materials, multiple manufactured products and installation processes
  • Knowledge of how to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings
  • Ability to work with Drill; Ladders and Hand Tools

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English

  • Possess a Texas Fire License (FAL)
