About the position

As a Senior Commercial Title Examiner at First American, you will play a crucial role in examining titles for commercial and industrial properties across multiple states. This position requires a deep understanding of public records and the legal conditions affecting property titles. You will be responsible for searching public records, examining titles, and determining the legal condition of primarily commercial or industrial property titles. Your work will involve summarizing recorded documents that impact the title condition and handling assignments that are varied and complex, necessitating a breadth of experience with different property types. You will also act as a resource for less experienced team members, sharing your knowledge of state requirements and best practices in title examination. In this role, you will examine chains of title primarily for commercial and industrial properties, although your expertise may extend to other types of commercial properties. You will perform title examinations on complex title orders that require a high level of expertise. Your responsibilities will include abstracting and analyzing records such as leases, subleases, acreage, liens, judgments, easements, and vital statistics. You will determine ownership and legal restrictions, verify legal descriptions of properties, and ensure the completeness of records for examinations, including those involving multi-site properties. Additionally, you will write title products based on your interpretation and application of procedural guidelines and provide underwriting interpretations within established guidelines. Customer contact may also be a part of your duties, along with other responsibilities as assigned.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 6+ years directly related experience.
  • Multiple state licenses (as required by state) to operate in a broad geographic area.
  • Strong detail and quality orientation.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Customer service orientation.
  • Strong MS skill set.
  • Knowledge of legal terms used in title documents.
  • Ability to read and decipher legal descriptions relating to title orders.
