About the position

Mathematica is searching for a Sr. Communications Specialist who will play a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive range of dissemination and engagement services. This position involves strategic planning and execution, message and content development, media relations, policymaker relations, and community engagement. The Sr. Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic dissemination plans that align with client deliverables and organizational goals. This role is crucial in planning and executing diverse engagement activities that facilitate the application of evidence to policies and programs. The Sr. Communications Specialist will translate and disseminate policy-relevant evidence through various formats and channels. Collaborating closely with project teams, client representatives, and relevant external partners, the specialist will co-create strategic messaging, dissemination, and engagement plans that support project activities. This includes developing and implementing strategic outreach campaigns, identifying and engaging primary and secondary audiences, and establishing relevant engagement metrics. A significant aspect of this role involves maintaining a robust network of media and journalist contacts, regularly conceiving, pitching, and placing stories in national, local, and trade media outlets. The specialist will also support government affairs and project colleagues in planning and executing policymaker briefings and events. Additionally, the role requires collaboration with thought leadership, external partners, and project/business unit colleagues to plan and execute inclusive events that highlight expert voices and diverse perspectives. The Sr. Communications Specialist will partner with business unit leadership and enterprise business development teams to develop and implement strategies that promote brand awareness and support lead generation at professional conferences and events. Writing compelling content for the company's external website, engagement emails, newsletters, blog posts, podcasts, and social media platforms is also a key responsibility. The specialist will work with subject matter experts and creative teams to produce high-quality digital and print products that effectively engage priority audiences. Furthermore, the specialist will support project and proposal teams by developing innovative strategies for community engagement and dissemination, contributing budget assumptions, and providing strategic communications counsel. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills with minimal oversight required
  • Ability to synthesize and convey complex data for diverse audiences
  • Thorough knowledge of international, federal, or state policy issues in relevant fields
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Exceptional project management and client service skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently
