About the position

Mathematica is searching for a Sr. Communications Specialist who will play a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive range of dissemination and engagement services. This position involves strategic planning and execution, message and content development, media relations, policymaker relations, and community engagement. The Sr. Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic dissemination plans that align with client deliverables and organizational goals. This role requires the planning and execution of diverse engagement activities that facilitate the application of evidence to policies and programs, ensuring that the work is impactful and relevant to stakeholders. The successful candidate will translate and disseminate policy-relevant evidence through various formats and channels, collaborating closely with project teams, client representatives, and external partners to co-create strategic messaging and engagement plans. This includes developing and implementing outreach campaigns that identify and engage primary and secondary audiences, utilizing appropriate engagement vehicles, and measuring engagement effectiveness. The role also involves maintaining a network of media contacts, pitching stories to relevant media outlets, and supporting government affairs colleagues in planning policymaker briefings and events. In addition, the Sr. Communications Specialist will collaborate with thought leaders and external partners to plan inclusive events that highlight diverse perspectives. The position requires a partnership with business unit leadership to develop strategies that promote brand awareness and support lead generation at various professional events. The candidate will also be responsible for writing compelling content for the company's external communications, including the website, newsletters, and social media platforms. Furthermore, the role includes supporting project teams with innovative community engagement strategies and contributing to proposal development with strategic communications counsel. Responsibilities

  • Translate and disseminate policy-relevant evidence through a variety of formats and channels
  • Co-create strategic messaging, dissemination, and engagement plans with project teams and external partners
  • Develop and implement strategic outreach campaigns targeting primary and secondary audiences
  • Maintain a network of media/journalist contacts and pitch stories to relevant media outlets
  • Support government affairs colleagues in planning policymaker briefings and events
  • Collaborate in planning and executing inclusive events that highlight diverse perspectives
  • Partner with business unit leadership to develop strategies for brand awareness and lead generation
  • Write and develop content for the company's external website, newsletters, and social media
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to produce high-quality digital and print products

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills with minimal oversight required
  • Ability to synthesize and convey complex data for diverse audiences
  • Thorough knowledge of international, federal, or state policy issues in relevant fields
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Exceptional project management and client service skills
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or related field; Master's degree preferred
  • Seven years of progressively responsible experience in relevant fields
