About the position

Mathematica is searching for a Sr. Communications Specialist who will play a pivotal role in providing a comprehensive range of dissemination and engagement services. This position involves strategic planning and execution, message and content development, media relations, policymaker relations, and community engagement. The Sr. Communications Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic dissemination plans that align with client deliverables and organizational goals. This role is crucial in planning and executing diverse engagement activities that facilitate the application of evidence to policies and programs. The core responsibilities of the Sr. Communications Specialist include translating and disseminating policy-relevant evidence through various formats and channels. The specialist will collaborate with project teams, client representatives, and external partners to co-create strategic messaging and engagement plans that support project activities. Additionally, the role involves developing and implementing outreach campaigns, identifying and engaging primary and secondary audiences, and establishing relevant engagement metrics. Another significant aspect of this position is maintaining a network of media and journalist contacts, pitching stories to national, local, and trade media outlets. The Sr. Communications Specialist will also support government affairs colleagues in planning and executing policymaker briefings and events. Collaboration with thought leadership and external partners is essential for planning inclusive events that highlight diverse perspectives from the field. Furthermore, the specialist will partner with business unit leadership to develop strategies that promote brand awareness and support lead generation at various professional events. The role requires writing and supporting the development of compelling content for the company's external website, newsletters, blog posts, podcasts, and social media platforms. The Sr. Communications Specialist will work closely with subject matter experts and creative teams to produce high-quality digital and print products that effectively engage priority audiences. Additionally, the specialist will contribute to community engagement strategies and provide strategic communications counsel to project and proposal teams. A commitment to advancing organizational diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts is also a key responsibility of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Translate and disseminate policy-relevant evidence through a variety of formats and channels.

Requirements

  • Excellent writing skills with minimal oversight and editing required.
  • Ability to synthesize and convey complex data and information for diverse audiences.
  • Thorough knowledge of international, federal, or state policy issues in health, education, early childhood, employment, family support, international development, and/or nutrition.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
  • Exceptional project management and client service skills.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and work independently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or related field.
