About the position

The Sr Data Quality Engineer II will play a crucial role in ensuring the integrity and quality of data within UNITE HERE HEALTH, which serves over 190,000 workers and their families in the hospitality and gaming industry across the nation. This position involves collaborating closely with the Manager of Data Quality and various departments to address their data quality and integrity needs. The engineer will analyze medical and pharmacy claims, eligibility data, and external data sources to understand business requirements and drive improvements in data quality. This role is pivotal in developing and enhancing reports that monitor data quality and integrity, making it essential for the organization's operational success. In this position, the engineer will be a primary user of the Fund's data warehouse and various internal information systems. They will also take on a mentorship role, guiding other analysts in defining methodologies and coding practices. The responsibilities include collecting, compiling, and analyzing data to measure and report on data quality issues, conducting comparative and root cause analyses to identify data quality problems, and proactively evaluating and improving the quality of data used for measuring plan, provider, and program performance. The engineer will develop checks and audit various data sources to ensure the accuracy and completeness of reporting data, refining workflows for vetting and resolving data integrity concerns. Collaboration with business partners and other departments is essential to assist with data quality checks before reports are finalized. Additionally, the engineer will automate standard periodic audits to identify known and high-impact issues, implement methods for improving reporting efficiency, and mentor other analysts in performing ad-hoc analyses and reports related to data quality and integrity. Staying updated on current trends and practices in healthcare data quality is also a key aspect of this role.

Responsibilities

  • Collects, compiles, and analyzes data to measure and report on data quality issues and data monitoring.
  • Conducts comparative and root cause analysis to identify and understand Data Quality issues.
  • Proactively evaluates and improves the quality of the data used to measure and report on plan, provider, and program performance.
  • Develops checks and audits various data sources to ensure reporting data is accurate and complete, refining efficient workflows for vetting and resolving data integrity concerns.
  • Works with business partners and members of other departments to assist with data quality checks prior to reports being delivered.
  • Develops and automates standard periodic audits to identify known and high-impact issues.
  • Identifies, develops, and implements methods for improving reporting efficiency, automating data audit processes, and improving data quality and reporting.
  • Mentors other analysts to perform a variety of ad-hoc analysis and reports as requested around data quality and data integrity.
  • Maintains and applies knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments in healthcare data quality.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in healthcare and claims data analysis (medical, pharmacy, eligibility).
  • 10+ years of experience with SQL programming.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with industry-standard medical codes (revenue codes, ICD10 classifications, CPT codes, etc.).
  • Experience with Power BI or Tableau report development including visualizations, dataset building, and report authoring.
  • ETL experience and data quality audit experience preferred.
  • A bachelor's degree in healthcare, Informatics, Computer Science, Economics, or related field or equivalent work experience required; Master's degree preferred.
  • The ability to travel (5-10%).
