About the position

The Senior Data Science Engineer at AppFolio will play a crucial role in the Data Science & Analytics Department, focusing on leveraging data to support strategic priorities and enhance customer understanding. This position involves collaborating cross-functionally to build data models that drive insights into customer behavior and product adoption, ultimately contributing to the company's growth and marketing objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate to structure and derive more value out of data across acquisition and growth efforts.
  • Leverage MQL opportunity data assets and sales performance metrics to build dbt data models for various data science use cases.
  • Perform data discovery on GTM analytics reporting logic to identify opportunities for creating shared business definitions in dbt.
  • Partner cross-functionally to create add-on services enablement for adoption funnel data models.
  • Build scalable data assets that support marketing/sales objectives and broader analytics needs.
  • Support competitive intelligence data to enhance segmentation across prospects/customers.
  • Contribute to Data Science infrastructure and long-term strategy with efficient ML operations.
  • Design and enhance dbt data models for prospect data and customer analytics.
  • Document data sources, metric definitions, and assumptions to drive adoption of curated data assets.
  • Identify data quality issues and implement semantic data layer standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5+ years of work experience in a technical role, Analytics/Data Engineering or Data Science.
  • Full Stack Data Science experience with a proven ability to bridge project requirements and application data.
  • Expertise in dbt, object-oriented programming, and building/deploying model pipelines to production.
  • Experience creating/editing widely used production tables.
  • Strong exploratory data analysis skills to answer business questions.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python (Pandas and/or Spark) for data transformation.
  • Excellent communication skills to assist product teams in decision-making.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machine learning operations and performance monitoring.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques.
