About the position

Amazon's Automated Inventory Management (AIM) team is looking for passionate, hard-working, and talented individuals to join our fast paced, stimulating environment to help invent the future of business ownership with Technology, and to translate our rich data into actionable insights. In AIM, we maximize business results by bringing granular planning predictability to an inherently uncertain business. We identify & address opportunities across the supply chain - from selection through inventory management. We recognize the role that selection, inventory, and managing constraints plays in creating a world-class customer experience - driving business growth and lowering our Cost to Serve. We continuously innovate and set new standards for supply chain excellence by constantly enriching the data, models, and our north star measurements through internal and external data sources. As a Data Scientist on the AIM team, you will design quantitative systems, forecasting models and solve real world problems using the latest machine learning techniques. You will also work with a team of Product Managers, Business Intelligence Engineers and Software Engineers to research and build solutions to provide insights to business leaders at the most senior levels throughout the company.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with scientists, economists and engineers to propose, prototype, analyze, implement and deliver to production a variety of data science initiatives related to Amazon Business.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of Amazon Business (AB) supply chain processes and make use of rich data to make inferences about AB customer behavior.
  • Propose, analyze and communicate the results of experiments that measure causal effects of AB selection with great autonomy.
  • Define, create and present metrics that deepen our understanding of how customers interact with our offerings.
  • Creatively translate our collected data into initiatives with measurable impacts on customer satisfaction and AB growth.
  • Define team data science processes and mentor your colleagues in the art of data science.
  • Articulate the results of your model in business language to stakeholders.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience.
  • Master's degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science.
  • 5+ years of data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.) experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • 2+ years of data visualization using AWS QuickSight, Tableau, R Shiny, etc. experience.
  • Experience managing data pipelines.
  • Experience as a leader and mentor on a data science team.
