About the position

The Senior Development Director at the American Heart Association will lead the Heart Ball campaign in the Richmond, VA market, acting as both a player and coach. This role involves supervising a Development Director and implementing strategies to achieve significant revenue goals while fostering relationships with key stakeholders and volunteers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the team to achieve or exceed the annual revenue goal of $1.5 million or more.
  • Develop and implement strategies for revenue growth through key fundraising events, strategic market partnerships, and philanthropic donors.
  • Identify, nurture, and recruit C-suite and Upper Level Management volunteer leaders.
  • Solicit, activate, and manage relationships with key corporate and community leaders.
  • Establish new accounts and cultivate new customers to increase revenue generation.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to direct reports, ensuring their success.
  • Build a network of meaningful volunteer partnerships to advance the mission.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in corporate sales or fundraising, with at least one year supervising staff with a revenue goal.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred; college coursework combined with related experience may substitute for a degree.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach and mentor staff to ensure revenue targets are reached.
  • Ability to identify, cultivate, recruit, and maintain relationships with senior level volunteers/customers.
  • Validated experience in exceeding sales/fundraising goals.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, negotiation, and social skills.
  • Willingness to work outside normal hours, including early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to do daily local travel up to 75%; requires access to reliable transportation.
