About the position

The Senior Director, Customer Innovation & Business Value at Lumen is a pivotal leadership role focused on developing and implementing the operating model strategy that encompasses people, processes, technology, and data to drive business value selling strategies. This position is integral to establishing strategic partnerships and enhancing enterprise opportunities. The individual in this role will operate in both an architect and operator capacity, building the Value practice while executing pre-sales value engagements on strategic deals. The goal is to deliver revenue, insights, and learnings that can be leveraged for repeatability and scalability in the organization. In this role, the Senior Director will serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in Business Value Strategy and Return on Investment propositions. They will articulate the economic impact of Lumen's digital capabilities, demonstrating how these capabilities deliver value to both users and Lumen's customers. The position requires designing and facilitating participatory workshops, stakeholder interviews, user research, and prototyping exercises to refine value generation. The Senior Director will also engage directly with customers and account teams to prepare and execute value alignment workshops, ensuring that the value proposition is effectively communicated and understood. The role demands collaboration across various business units, including pursuit teams and product management, to define and implement innovative solutions and process improvements. The Senior Director will lead multiple complex engagements, ultimately creating a comprehensive model for engaging customers in a value-based sales approach. They will also be responsible for designing the operating model for the Strategic Sales Value practice, defining the architecture for Value Advisory offerings, and ensuring the necessary tools and processes are in place for tracking success across the Business Value lifecycle. Additionally, the Senior Director will create a vision for qualifying strategic pursuits and develop a framework to drive a large deal pipeline. This role requires a proactive approach, with a strong focus on continuous improvement and maximizing operational efficiency and return on investment. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the enterprise sector, leading large virtual teams and managing business relevance and value realization in technology environments.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate as SME in the areas of Business Value Strategy and Return on Investment propositions, articulating the economic impact story in the context of how Lumen digital capabilities deliver value to users and Lumen's customers' end customers.
  • Design and facilitate participatory workshops, stakeholder interviews, user research, and prototyping exercises to establish and refine Value generation.
  • Serve as a provocative problem solver, helping the team to structure and illustrate information in a concise and impactful manner and identify value themes.
  • Collaborate across the business; pursuit teams, product management to define and implement innovative solutions and process improvement for the client deliverable, product direction, experience and workflow.
  • Engage directly with customers and account teams to socialize, prepare and execute the value alignment workshops (first mile).
  • Work with designers and strategists to create compelling work products to communicate customer vision.
  • Lead multiple, highly complex engagements across various functions, which ultimately coalesce into one comprehensive model for engaging customers in a Value based oriented sales motion.
  • Design and Land the Operating Model for Strategic Sales Value practice - define architecture for Value Advisory offerings, including the practitioners (blueprint), processes and tools/data required from incubation to mainstream, service model for engagement and tools required for tracking success across the Business Value lifecycle (value alignment, value quantification, design for value and value realization).
  • Design Sales Scenarios highlighting unique Lumen value proposition and incubate/test with customers, learn and adjust for repeatability and scale.
  • Create vision for qualifying strategic pursuits and framework to drive large deal pipeline.
  • Work with investment, sales and community engagement teams to develop, plan, track and implement a range of long-term investments and drive long-term program sustainability.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of leading commercial pre-sales and/or consulting pre-sales teams driving business relevance conversation with end customer to develop early sales pipeline.
  • Excellent presentation, speaking and writing skills with the ability to effectively communicate a compelling vision and complex technical concepts to a broad range of audiences, including the C-Suite.
  • Able to form strong working relationships that bridge technical and business functions and obtain buy-in across complex organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly establish trust with customers and engage with a shared vision for transformation and success.
  • The ability to overcome business and technical hurdles, demonstrating the business benefits and operational path required to achieve change.
  • Able to maintain focus on objectives while also managing through ambiguous and dynamic business environments.
  • Possess knowledge of Cloud, Enterprise Architecture and Design.
  • Experience in leading Architects responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining cloud-based infrastructures, enterprise architectures, data and application frameworks, IT operations, and industry compliance standards.
  • Highly proactive, consultative, creative and positive with a can-do attitude even in the most difficult circumstances.
  • Strong continuous improvement mindset and passion to identify or develop strategies to maximize operational efficiency and return on investment.
  • Minimum 10 years of success in the Enterprise sector leading and managing large virtual teams (20+ people) in the business relevance and value realization technology arena including work in a sales, finance and information technology environments.
  • B.S. or equivalent work experience in the private sector or military. MBA or related graduate degree is a plus.
