About the position

The Senior Director, Customer Innovation & Business Value at Lumen is a pivotal leadership role focused on developing and implementing operating model strategies that drive business value through effective selling strategies. This position requires a blend of strategic thinking and operational execution, as the leader will be responsible for architecting the Value practice and executing pre-sales engagements that not only generate revenue but also provide insights for scalability and repeatability. The role demands a deep understanding of business value strategy and the ability to articulate the economic impact of Lumen's digital capabilities to both internal stakeholders and external customers. In this role, the Senior Director will lead participatory workshops, stakeholder interviews, and user research to refine value generation processes. They will serve as a problem solver, helping teams structure and present information in a compelling manner while identifying key value themes. Collaboration is essential, as the director will work closely with pursuit teams and product management to innovate solutions and improve processes that enhance client deliverables and overall product direction. The Senior Director will also engage directly with customers to facilitate value alignment workshops, ensuring that the value proposition is clearly communicated and understood. This role involves leading multiple complex engagements across various functions, ultimately creating a comprehensive model for customer engagement focused on value-based sales. The director will design and implement the operating model for the Strategic Sales Value practice, defining the necessary architecture, processes, and tools to track success throughout the Business Value lifecycle. Additionally, the Senior Director will be responsible for creating sales scenarios that highlight Lumen's unique value proposition, testing these with customers to refine and scale the approach. They will work with investment and community engagement teams to plan and implement long-term investments that ensure program sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate as SME in Business Value Strategy and Return on Investment propositions.
  • Design and facilitate participatory workshops, stakeholder interviews, user research, and prototyping exercises.
  • Serve as a provocative problem solver, structuring and illustrating information concisely.
  • Collaborate across business units to define and implement innovative solutions and process improvements.
  • Engage directly with customers and account teams to execute value alignment workshops.
  • Work with designers and strategists to create compelling work products.
  • Lead multiple complex engagements to create a comprehensive model for customer engagement.
  • Design and land the operating model for Strategic Sales Value practice.
  • Create vision for qualifying strategic pursuits and framework to drive large deal pipeline.
  • Work with investment, sales, and community engagement teams to develop and implement long-term investments.

Requirements

  • Proven track record of leading commercial pre-sales and/or consulting pre-sales teams.
  • Excellent presentation, speaking, and writing skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a broad audience, including the C-Suite.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to form relationships across technical and business functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish trust with customers and engage in shared vision for transformation.
  • Ability to overcome business and technical hurdles and maintain focus on objectives.
  • Knowledge of Cloud, Enterprise Architecture, and Design.
  • Experience leading architects in designing and maintaining cloud-based infrastructures.
  • Highly proactive, consultative, and creative approach with a positive attitude.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in the Enterprise sector leading large virtual teams.
