About the position

The Sr. Engineer in Federal Technical Services is a pivotal role at Optiv + ClearShark, designed for an individual who operates independently and is responsible for leading the delivery of engagements that provide significant value to our customers. This position requires a mastery of capabilities aligned with our service practices, as well as the ability to develop pathways for future opportunities. The Sr. Engineer will not only execute tasks outlined in statements of work but will also lead a team of Associate, Level I, and Level II Engineers, guiding them in their daily operations and career development. Excellent communication and leadership skills are essential, as this role involves regular interaction with clients and engineers in a leadership capacity. In this role, the Sr. Engineer will maintain a deep understanding of the chief technologies relevant to their responsibilities, as well as an advanced understanding of the major technologies surrounding these chief technologies. The position entails leading a team in developing workflows to tackle complex issues efficiently, providing mentorship to junior engineers, and managing the day-to-day operations of the team. The Sr. Engineer will spend a significant portion of their time on engagement delivery, executing tasks with no direct oversight, leading discussions with clients, and documenting project progress and resolutions. Additionally, they will be responsible for engagement management, sales and client engagement, talent development, and contributing to strategy and operations within the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a master's understanding of the chief technologies they will be responsible for.
  • Lead a team of engineers in developing workflows focused on tackling complex issues.
  • Spend 5% of their time developing corporate strategy and supporting operations.
  • Spend 5% of their time on training and fine-tuning skills.
  • Spend 10% of their time managing day-to-day operations and career development efforts of team members.
  • Spend 80% of their time on engagement delivery, executing all tasks outlined in the scope of work.
  • Lead discussions with clients to analyze and understand their needs and objectives.
  • Aid Associate, Level I, and Level II Engineers on sophisticated tasking.
  • Lead technical discussions with clients to understand their engineering requirements.
  • Serve as the escalation level for complex issues as necessary.
  • Document project progress, issues, and resolutions in a concise and timely manner.
  • Review work of Associate, Level I, and Level II Engineers to assist in their approach for producing high-quality work.
  • Monitor and approve timecards and expense reports for team members.
  • Perform annual performance reviews and quarterly feedback sessions for team members.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients to ensure satisfaction.
  • Lead the communication of technical concepts effectively to clients.
  • Identify and communicate cross-sell and up-sell opportunities with the account team across services.
  • Demonstrate proactive engagement in obtaining and maintaining certifications and cultivating technical proficiency.
  • Provide input to leadership on needed training and development.
  • Contribute to thought leadership exercises about Optiv + ClearShark's services portfolio.

Requirements

  • Currently holds a Top-Secret clearance - TS//SCI.
  • Full-scope poly preferred.
  • Experience operating in classified environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or at least 8 years of related work experience.
  • Robust understanding of identity, SIEM, cybersecurity, and infrastructure concepts.
  • Strong understanding of governance and compliance, specifically with FAR, DFARs, CUI and CMMC.
  • Broad understanding of FedRAMP and IL constructs.
  • Strong understanding of leadership concepts and ideas.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team.
  • Experience leading an engineering team, preferably having handled tasking, resolving personnel issues, and providing actionable feedback.
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex messages to a variety of audiences.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Willingness to travel to meet client needs.
