About the position

The Sr. Engineer position at Hitachi Astemo involves research, design, and development of manufacturing processes to enhance production efficiency and quality. The role focuses on coordinating the launch of new products, developing quality systems, and leading continuous improvement initiatives within the automotive manufacturing sector.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research, design, and development of manufacturing processes including production flow, assembly methods, and production equipment.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed layouts of buildings and equipment.
  • Coordinate the manufacturing launch of new/revised products, establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.
  • Create manning plans based on volume forecasts for new programs.
  • Provide input to product design based on design for manufacture/design for assembly philosophy.
  • Design, develop, test, and source various tools, machinery, and equipment for recommended manufacturing methods.
  • Conduct product/process analysis for cost reduction, quality improvement, and improved efficiency.
  • Develop and document quality systems for new programs including control plans, PFMEA, process flows, work instructions, and inspection plans.
  • Coordinate and document all Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) activities.
  • Calculate required dunnage usage and design, test, and order necessary dunnage for new programs.
  • Develop and maintain documentation such as downtime, scrap, and efficiencies.
  • Utilize data to plan and strategize countermeasures for equipment and process problems.
  • Lead or participate in Kaizen activities to ensure continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Five (5) years of Engineering experience.
  • Experience in the automotive manufacturing industry is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques.
  • Technical skills in manufacturing processes and methods including flow, layout, assembly, and production equipment.
  • Strong problem analysis and resolution skills.
  • Familiarity with current automotive standards and OSHA regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to motivate team efforts to accomplish goals.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; some Access experience preferred.
