About The Position

As a Senior Engineer at Thrivent, you will serve as a technical expert in application and systems engineering, focusing on designing and developing business-critical technology solutions. This role emphasizes collaboration with product teams and the integration of applications across the organization, leveraging your expertise in specialized engineering technologies such as DBT, Jinja, Python, Scala, Apache Spark, and Java with Databricks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in engineering environments with a focus on software engineering planning.
  • 7+ years of mastery in DBT, DB2, SQL, Jinja, Spark, Python, Scala, Java, and Databricks.
  • 5+ years of domain expertise in insurance, finance, and marketing, with experience in ETL/ELT design.
  • 5+ years of experience leading teams through migration projects and establishing data frameworks.
  • Sound knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) practices and version control procedures.
  • Expertise in debugging code and analyzing product defects.

Responsibilities

  • Designing technology solutions based on technical knowledge to drive customer outcomes.
  • Working independently and collaboratively to develop core technology solutions that meet team expectations for stability and scalability.
  • Sharing new ideas and techniques with the team and encouraging junior engineers to invest in learning.
  • Participating in collaboration sessions to provide technical expertise and remove roadblocks for the team.
  • Contributing to the development of engineering practices, templates, and frameworks.
  • Continuously assessing technology to enhance software stability, scalability, and resilience.
  • Promoting the use of CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment processes.
  • Defining selection criteria for technology vendors and participating in proof of concept activities.
  • Coaching junior engineers and providing technical expertise to solve software issues.
  • Engaging in the tech community to build Thrivent's technology brand and participating in the recruitment process.
