About the position

The Account Executive Officer (AEO) for Inland Marine at Travelers is a pivotal role that focuses on providing coverage for business properties that are mobile or require unique valuation. This includes properties related to construction, transportation, fine art, and renewable energy. The AEO will work closely with agents and brokers to assess customer needs and provide tailored insurance solutions. This position is not only about underwriting but also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with both internal and external partners to drive business results. The AEO is expected to be decisive and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to independently assess complex risks and sell products in challenging markets. This role is crucial for the profitability and success of Travelers, as it directly impacts the growth and retention of the assigned book of business. In this role, the AEO will manage the profitability, growth, and retention of their assigned accounts. They will underwrite and negotiate complex customer accounts, ensuring that risks are minimized while maximizing profitability. The AEO will also cultivate relationships with internal partners to create effective sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities. Regular in-person meetings with agents and brokers are essential for marketing and selling Travelers products, and the AEO must be willing to travel for these engagements. Additionally, the AEO may assist in training and mentoring less experienced Account Executives, contributing to the overall development of the underwriting team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the profitability, growth, and retention of an assigned book of business.
  • Underwrite and skillfully negotiate complex customer accounts to minimize risk and maximize profitability.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with internal partners within the business unit and across the enterprise to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with external partners by regularly meeting in person with agents and brokers to market and sell Travelers products.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills.
  • Independently develop and execute agency sales plans and frequently partner with your Managing Director (MD) to develop region/group sales plans.
  • May assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced Account Executives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Six to eight years of relevant underwriting experience with experience in inland marine.
  • Deep knowledge of inland marine products, the regulatory environment, and the local insurance market.
  • Strong critical thinking skills with the ability to proactively identify underwriting, marketing, or financial challenges and analyze available information to make timely decisions in alignment with our risk appetite.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to successfully negotiate in difficult situations with agents and brokers.
  • CPCU designation.
  • Four years of underwriting experience.
