About the position

The Senior Instructional Designer (ID), Clinical Informaticist is responsible for designing and developing electronic health record (EHR) and health information technology (HIT) content for critical learning programs. This role requires advanced knowledge in health information technology applied to clinical care and business operations, focusing on creating engaging training content across various delivery platforms. The Senior ID also mentors other instructional designers and is responsible for maintaining the Epic training environment and ensuring compliance with vendor certification requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Use informatics concepts, methods, and tools to promote safe and effective use of technologies in clinical care.
  • Design and develop engaging training content that aligns with adult learning principles and identified outcomes.
  • Collaborate with clinical informatics teams and operational teams to deliver training content.
  • Apply knowledge of human-computer interaction and usability heuristics in instructional design.
  • Maintain knowledge of EHR and HIT across multiple service lines and Epic modules.
  • Manage all phases of learning projects including analysis, design, development, and evaluation.
  • Assess, plan, and evaluate changes to systems and their impact on clinical workflows.
  • Create multimedia-rich learning experiences using advanced development skills.
  • Document complex business requirements and create workflows across operational areas.
  • Travel to M Health Fairview locations for site visits and related activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in health care or related field or informatics degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 3 years clinical healthcare experience or informatics-related experience in a health system.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in training/education or instructional design.
  • Advanced understanding of clinical care workflows and health care operations.
  • Experience mentoring and coaching team members.
  • Access to reliable transportation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's or Doctoral level degree in instructional design, informatics, or operational leadership.
  • Experience with Epic EHR use, implementations, upgrades, and/or build.
  • Industry-level certifications such as AACN, HIMSS, Lean, Master Instructional Designer, etc.
