About the position

The Sr. Manager of Standards is responsible for ensuring that flight training programs at Sun Country Airlines maintain regulatory compliance while supporting safety, quality, and efficiency. This role involves overseeing standardization, education, and execution of training standards, as well as managing the training and qualification of flight instructors and evaluators.

Responsibilities

  • Achieve and maintain Evaluator and/or Instructor qualification.
  • Responsible for the initial training, observation, standardization, mentorship, and continued qualification of all APDs, Simulator Instructors, PCPs, Professional Instructors, and Line Check Pilots.
  • Manage all flight instructor and evaluator procedures and training materials.
  • Prepare measurable function goals and objectives to meet all position objectives, as well as department and division goals.
  • Take corrective action as necessary on a timely basis and in accordance with company policy.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of AQP and the AQP Developer in the development of training materials for various instructors and students.
  • Assist with the review, analysis, and incorporation of training and safety-related information into the training program.
  • Serve on the Pilot Training Review Board.
  • Track flight training and evaluation activity and recommend adjustments.
  • Notify the Senior Director of Pilot Training & Standards of any discrepancies affecting safety or regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and track the Enhanced Oversight Program for flight and line training events.
  • Coordinate with the Manager of Training Scheduling to manage adjustments to the flight training schedule.
  • Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, within the function and across multiple internal and external functions.
  • Ensure compliance with the current pilot collective bargaining agreement and regulations.
  • Work varied hours including weekends and holidays to meet contractual deadlines.
  • Present information and respond to questions from management and other personnel.
  • Write reports including VDRs and SRAs.
  • Plan and organize Standards Meetings.
  • Conduct audits as necessary.

Requirements

  • Airline Transport Pilot certificate and type rating.
  • 4 years of Flight Simulator Instructor and/or Evaluator experience.
  • Broad and in-depth knowledge of aircraft operation and general business knowledge.
  • Previous experience in Flight Training/Standards.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational abilities.
  • Superior knowledge of airline policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Strong team management skills.
  • Strong prioritization and time management skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications, especially Excel, Word, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, able to perform independently and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, vendors, ALPA, and contractors.
  • Discretion with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Part 121 Flight Operations Training knowledge.

Nice-to-haves

  • Four year college degree in a related field.
  • Strong working knowledge of the contents of the B737 aircraft's operating manuals.
  • Project Management experience.
