About the position

Elbit Systems of America is seeking a Process Engineer focused on the manufacturing of phosphor-coated fiber optics. This role involves optimizing manufacturing processes and equipment to reduce touch time, minimize costs, and increase yield. The engineer will work closely with the Operations group to manage process improvements, conduct defect analysis, and provide operator training. Additionally, the position requires collaboration in cross-functional teams to address safety, quality, delivery, and productivity issues. The engineer will also conduct failure analysis of components to determine root causes and implement corrective actions, as well as work on increasing image intensifier performance metrics such as Phosphor Efficiency, Resolution, and MTF.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizing manufacturing processes and equipment to reduce touch time, minimize cost, and increase yield.
  • Working with Operations group to manage process improvement, defect analysis, and operator training.
  • Working in cross-functional team settings to minimize or eliminate safety, quality, delivery, and productivity problems.
  • Conducting failure analysis of components to determine root cause and implement corrective actions.
  • Increasing image intensifier performance (Phosphor Efficiency, Resolution, MTF, etc.) as part of a cross-functional team.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance
  • BS in Chemical, Mechanical or Materials Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of technical experience or academic research in optics or related field
  • Effective analytical and communication skills
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis techniques and SPC
  • Proficiency with designing structured experimentation
  • Ability to work and collaborate well with others with a range of technical capabilities from process operators to production supervisors to engineering colleagues.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in optics manufacturing processes (grinding, polishing, inspection)
  • Six Sigma certification
  • Experience writing complex MS Access queries
  • Proficiency with statistical analysis software; Minitab, JMP, SAS
  • Ability to collaborate with all facets of the Night Vision organization
  • Comfortable with self-initiating business and professional improvements
  • Ability to support the organizational culture and build morale.
