About the position

Our Industrial and Water market is growing across North America and we are adding several Sr. Mechanical Engineers to our team in our Lenexa Kansas office. We are looking for individuals with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering with at least 10 years of design experience in Industrial Water or Wastewater treatment mechanical systems and equipment. The ideal candidate will be able to design and lead teams and projects, helping to establish, maintain, and improve company standards and tools while utilizing these standards and tools to contribute to project success. Our rapidly growing Industrial Design Group, which includes process, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Consumer Products, Heavy Manufacturing, Industrial Buildings, Industrial Water, and Utilities. We have specialized expertise in plant floor process design, packaging, refrigerated/frozen facility design, and ammonia refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Provide design, coordination, and oversight of various mechanical systems typical for complex water projects including Industrial Water Treatment, Advanced Water Reuse, and Desalination plants.
  • Manage the completion of all project design calculations and equipment specifications typical for Water and Wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Coordinate and communicate all aspects of the project's mechanical design within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Provide oversight and coordination of projects, working with assigned design managers and project managers to meet project budgets and schedules for all mechanical discipline activities.
  • Manage other design partners including construction partners, equipment suppliers, and other engineers and designers assigned to the project or task.
  • Perform detailed technical bid analyses for equipment typical for water or wastewater treatment facilities.
  • Generate and check design deliverables such as PFD's, P&ID's, process simulations, datasheets, and vendor shop drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards.
  • Support the construction team including representing the design team on-site, answering RFI's, and providing creative design solutions.
  • Develop schedules, work assignments, and staffing requirements to ensure successful project completion.
  • Perform early project design work such as conceptual studies, process flow diagram development, mass/energy balances, preliminary equipment sizing and selection, and general facility layout/arrangement.
  • Train, mentor, and advise peers and support staff on proper application of industry standards and best practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent engineering program from an ABET accredited four-year university is required.
  • Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is required; Professional Engineer (P.E.) (or in process of obtaining) is preferred.
  • A minimum of 10+ years of industry related mechanical engineering systems design experience is required in Industrial Water or Wastewater Treatment.
  • Experience with Pre-Feed, FEED, EPC and Design build projects preferred.
  • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers/designers is preferred.
  • Proficient in developing P&ID's, equipment specifications, and drawings; experience with SmartPlant or similar software and Microsoft Office suite is required.
  • Preferred experience utilizing AFT Fathom or AFT Arrow hydraulic simulation software (or equivalent).

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Pre-Feed, FEED, EPC and Design build projects preferred.
  • Experience leading and mentoring other engineers/designers is preferred.
