About the position

The Senior Product Owner at Southwest Airlines plays a crucial role in delivering datasets for cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies aimed at enhancing near real-time processes and analytical capabilities. This position is integral to the company's mission of connecting people to what matters most in their lives through friendly, reliable, and low-cost air travel. As the Customer proxy, the Senior Product Owner collaborates closely with Product Management and various stakeholders, including other product owners and teams, to define and prioritize the Team Backlog. This ensures that the solutions developed effectively address program priorities while maintaining technical integrity. The Senior Product Owner is expected to have a detail-oriented mindset, which is essential for designing the future of Southwest Airlines' data science capabilities. This role involves providing innovation and overseeing the end-to-end launch of integrated solutions/products across multiple Agile Teams. The Senior Product Owner will work with senior stakeholders and customers to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization, translating product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements, including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria. In addition to these responsibilities, the Senior Product Owner will coach and mentor other Product Owners across Agile Teams, helping them build, refine, prioritize, and maintain their Team backlogs. The role also requires the ability to define and prioritize solutions to complex issues, effectively communicate dependencies, risks, and issues, and coach Product Owners and Scrum Masters in the successful delivery of Scrum ceremonies. This position is offered as a remote workplace role, with occasional travel required for training, meetings, and conferences.

Responsibilities

  • Provide innovation and the end-to-end launch of integrated solutions/products across multiple Agile Teams
  • Collaborate with Business Partners and Product Managers to co-develop a roadmap and drive products and features from concept to launch in a fast-paced environment across multiple Agile Teams
  • Work with senior stakeholders and customers across the organization to inform the product vision, strategy, features, and prioritization
  • Translate product roadmap features into well-defined product requirements including features, user stories, and acceptance test criteria across multiple products or complex solutions
  • Turn data insights into products with actionable outcomes to the ultimate customer
  • Oversee the design, construction, and implementation of integrated solutions ensuring functionality meets business requirements
  • Coach and mentor other Product Owners across multiple Agile Teams to build, refine, prioritize and maintain their Team backlogs
  • Review, approve, and drive iteration content by prioritizing user stories and accept user stories as complete
  • Define and prioritize solutions to complex issues and effectively communicate dependencies, risks, issues and scope for complex solutions
  • Coach and mentor Product Owners and Scrum Masters in the successful delivery of Scrum ceremonies such as iteration planning, iteration reviews, and demos
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field
  • Advanced-level experience in Agile and Scrum software development methodologies
  • Seasoned and specialized knowledge in business analysis, project management or software development delivering enterprise products and solutions

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of the software development lifecycle
  • Strong background in AWS and data streaming such as Kafka
