About the position

The Sr Refrigeration Technician at CBRE plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Service Department, focusing on the service, repair, calibration, and preventive maintenance of refrigerated and some non-refrigerated scientific equipment. This includes a variety of equipment such as freezers, refrigerators, lyophilizers, and vacuum pumps. The technician will work under both direct and indirect supervision, primarily in the field but also occasionally in the shop. The position emphasizes meeting customer service needs and requires collaboration with fellow technicians, administrative staff, and project managers. The technician will be responsible for managing work orders, assisting with customer service needs, and ensuring that all tasks are executed efficiently and effectively. In addition to field responsibilities, which include performing repairs, preventative maintenance, installations, and shop infrastructure work, the technician will also provide technical support. This may involve physical involvement in the field repair or diagnosis of equipment. The role requires fostering positive relationships with clients, vendors, and co-workers, and may involve training other technicians as a technical specialist team lead. The technician will also be responsible for reviewing work orders, maintaining labor and material costing requirements, and addressing escalated customer issues with the Area Service Supervisor. The position requires management of personal company-issued vehicle maintenance and adherence to safety and administrative policies. Overall, the Sr Refrigeration Technician is expected to maintain high standards of customer service, technical expertise, and compliance with industry regulations, contributing to the overall success of the Service Department and CBRE's reputation as a leader in the life sciences sector.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repairs, preventative maintenance, installations, and shop infrastructure work as needed.
  • Assist other technicians and staff as needed, including pick-up and delivery of equipment.
  • Provide field service, shop service/repairs, calibration, and preventative maintenance of scientific equipment.
  • Support servicing customers' specialty equipment in the shop.
  • Work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and be 'on-call' as needed.
  • Foster positive work relationships with clients, vendors, and co-workers.
  • Review work orders and maintain labor and material costing requirements on all jobs.
  • Bring escalated customer issues to the attention of the Area Service Supervisor.
  • Support the goals of the Service department to achieve installation, sales, and collection budgets.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma and two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Prior supervision experience in scientific or specialized refrigeration, sterilization, or HVAC preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and internet functions is required; accounting and construction software packages preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers, vendors, and managers via phone and in person.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret various instructions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with environmental test chambers, sterilization/autoclaves, and industrial ovens.
  • Knowledge of control retrofit and calibration processes.
