About the position

Oak Farms Dairy, a Dairy Farmers of America company, is seeking a Sr. Refrigeration Mechanic to join their team in San Antonio, Texas. This position is crucial for ensuring that the fleet of trucks and trailers is maintained in optimal operating condition. The Sr. Refrigeration Mechanic will perform the majority of truck and/or trailer maintenance and repairs with minimal support from others, demonstrating a high level of independence and technical skill. The role requires working closely with other mechanics or supervisors for highly technical or intricate diagnostic repairs, ensuring that all work is performed under minimal supervision while exercising judgment and discretion in resolving issues or making repairs. The responsibilities of the Sr. Refrigeration Mechanic include performing basic to moderately difficult vehicle and preventive maintenance, component replacements, and repairs. This includes maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and/or replacing various vehicle components such as brakes, steering mechanisms, air conditioners, and more. The mechanic will also be responsible for facility maintenance duties and will utilize shop management systems and other electronic systems to diagnose mechanical and electronic problems. Identifying the root cause of failures and performing necessary repairs is a key aspect of this role, as is interacting with drivers to determine the nature of complaints. The Sr. Refrigeration Mechanic will work in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate compliance guidelines, including safety and DOT regulations. Completing work orders and paperwork accurately and in a timely manner is essential, as is maintaining a clean and safe work area. The mechanic will also assist and mentor less experienced mechanics, contributing to a culture of continuous improvement and safety within the workplace. Responsibilities

  • Perform the majority of truck and/or trailer maintenance and repairs with minimal support of others.
  • Work with the assistance of other mechanics or supervisors for highly technical or intricate diagnostic repairs.
  • Perform basic to moderately difficult vehicle and preventive maintenance, component replacements, and repairs.
  • Maintain, repair, inspect, and/or replace various vehicle components as necessary.
  • Perform facility maintenance duties.
  • Use shop management system and other electronic systems available.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electronic problems, using diagnostic computer when applicable.
  • Identify root cause of failures/conditions and perform repairs as required.
  • Interact with drivers to properly determine nature of complaint once assigned a task.
  • Work in accordance with all federal, state, and corporate compliance guidelines (e.g., safety, DOT).
  • Complete work orders and paperwork in a timely and accurate manner, maintaining high quality standards in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOP's).
  • Respond to accidents or inoperable vehicles to transport equipment back to shop for repair, if appropriate.
  • Keep management informed of safety, operator, and equipment observations and concerns.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities to improve processes, utilizing continuous improvement mindset.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area, wearing required personal protective equipment in designated areas.
  • Assist and mentor less experienced mechanics.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 2 to 4 years of mechanic, maintenance, or related experience.
  • Mechanic certification, CDL license, refrigeration license, or other relevant certifications or licenses may be required.
  • Skill with engines, anti-lock braking system, transmission, diagnostic equipment, and software.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of DOT regulations.
  • Able to read and understand driver inspection reports.
  • Able to assist other mechanics on complex repairs in a safe and useful manner.
  • Able to operate tools, equipment, and peripheral accessories.
  • Able to independently access and use internal and external maintenance documents.
  • Able to work in a team environment.
  • Able to perform tasks and duties without constant supervision.
  • Able to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
