About The Position

The Security Engineer at the AWS Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, will design and oversee security operations for a growing research and development effort. This role involves creating a threat model and security plan, leading security initiatives, and ensuring the safety of research spaces and cloud infrastructure. The engineer will work closely with internal stakeholders and partners to uphold Amazon's security standards while managing security projects with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of relevant security engineering work experience, or a Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Informatics, or related fields.
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a security expert in security engineering or research and development.
  • Hands-on experience with security lifecycle activities including threat modeling and risk analysis.
  • Strong understanding of adversary TTPs and experience with threat detection and response.

  • Interest in learning Quantum Technologies.
  • Experience developing and delivering training to security and technical professionals.
  • Excellent written communication skills for translating complex security issues into understandable concepts.
  • Ability to manage daily operations and develop strategic program plans.

  • Experience providing security oversight in data centers or research labs.

Responsibilities

  • Own the completion of a threat model and security plan for research spaces.
  • Lead security initiatives and activities to protect R&D facilities and cloud infrastructure.
  • Define, document, and educate policies/workflows for labs across various sectors.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and partners to meet Amazon's security standards.
  • Understand software lifecycle on scientific equipment and mitigate risks.
  • Perform periodic reviews of software baselines and network activity.
  • Manage security reviews of applications used internally and externally.
  • Create and maintain inventories of sensitive hardware and software.
  • Audit equipment and software before commissioning in development or production environments.
