About the position

The Sr. Sourcing Specialist for Electronic Components at SpaceX is responsible for developing and implementing sourcing strategies that align with the company's objectives, particularly for the Starlink program. This role involves building relationships with suppliers, managing purchasing transactions, and driving cost reduction initiatives while ensuring quality and timely delivery of goods and services. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize sourcing models and achieve business goals.

Responsibilities

  • Create sourcing strategies to reduce risk and enable continuous cost reduction.
  • Build genuine relationships both internally and externally and drive cross-functional teams to achieve consensus regarding opportunities.
  • Maintain vendor delivery of goods and services; execute purchasing transactions by issuing purchase orders and managing master data.
  • Develop and maintain key internal stakeholder relationships to evaluate sourcing models and optimize product and service value.
  • Maintain continuous cost reduction programs and drive compliance to category strategies.
  • Identify and execute cost reduction projects including planning and stakeholder coordination.
  • Utilize negotiations to maximize value and cost savings while lowering risk.
  • Conduct research, perform benchmarking, and gather market analysis for assigned categories.
  • Act as a market intelligence provider regarding categories and keep key stakeholders informed.
  • Perform advanced quantitative analysis to identify financial impacts of decisions and performance for managed categories.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree; or bachelor's degree and 2+ years of experience in engineering, purchasing, contract negotiation, material or production planning, operations or supply chain management, or material cost control; or 6+ years of relevant experience.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Exceptional analytical and organizational skills, with independent problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to prioritize appropriately to meet internal customer and company needs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree.
  • Experience in managing high-spend portfolios (i.e. $10M+).
  • Ability to mine data from ERP systems using Excel, SQL, and Power BI.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated, able to respond quickly to a fast-moving environment.
