About the position

The Sr. Specialist Electrical Engineer in Power Supply Design at L3Harris is responsible for contributing to the design and development of power conversion circuit cards. This role involves designing low and high voltage, high frequency switch mode power supplies while collaborating with other engineering disciplines to ensure compliance with power, thermal, emissions, and safety requirements. The engineer will work under the supervision of a senior engineer and participate in various design and testing activities.

Responsibilities

  • Design AC/DC power converters
  • Design DC/DC power converters
  • Design power distribution architectures
  • Design and analyze EMI filters
  • Analyze analog/power circuits for stability, efficiency, power draw, in-rush, etc.
  • Write specifications and test approaches for power supply circuit designs
  • Select components for discrete power converter designs or modules for systems
  • Create schematics for analog/power circuits and support printed circuit card design
  • Conduct and participate in internal peer design reviews and design verification testing of engineering units
  • Perform analog and power testing in a laboratory setting for development components and circuit cards
  • Work in conjunction with multi-disciplinary engineering teams for digital, RF, mechanical, and systems engineers on overall program/project performance

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with power conversion design, power analysis, analog circuit simulation, control loops and stabilization
  • Knowledge of high frequency magnetics design, development, and manufacturing
  • Demonstrated knowledge of AC/DC & DC/DC power converter design, build and test
  • Understanding of power analysis with MathCad, Excel or similar tools
  • Experience with electrical simulations using SIMPLIS and SPICE modeling tools
  • Experience with CAD tools (preferably Mentor Graphics) for schematic entry and layout
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD-704 and MIL-STD-461
