About the position

Nationwide's Legal team is seeking a Senior Trial Attorney to deliver top-quality legal services in support of a Fortune 100 insurance company. This role emphasizes a commitment to protecting people, businesses, and futures with extraordinary care. The position is available in a hybrid work environment, with options to report from Elmsford, NY or Garden City, NY. The Senior Trial Attorney will handle a diverse caseload, including various types of bodily injury and property damage cases, while maintaining a high level of productivity and collaboration within the team.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates trial advocacy skills as lead counsel or as part of a team, ensuring efficient case management and high-quality work.
  • Requires minimal oversight from the Managing Trial Attorney and NTD Leadership in core duties and responsibilities.
  • Effectively utilizes technology and collaborates with support staff for efficient case management.
  • Maintains awareness of changes in law, technology, and procedural requirements impacting litigation strategies.
  • Provides sound opinions on case valuations, promptly communicated to clients and claims.
  • Establishes and maintains strong professional relationships with key associates and claims partners.
  • Communicates effectively to meet client and internal communication expectations.
  • Mentors junior attorneys and NTD staff, providing guidance and training.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active license in the state where the position is located.
  • More than eight years of relevant civil litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Significant litigation experience in property and casualty insurance defense or subrogation.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation skills and analytical abilities.
