About the position

The Staff Accountant position is responsible for recording various financial transactions, including assets, liabilities, equity, income, and expenses. This role involves producing financial reports for management and participating in month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

Responsibilities

• Record daily sales information and prepare sales reporting on a daily and weekly basis
• Assign and track capital asset numbers and related expenses, investigating discrepancies
• Prepare fixed asset schedules and related capital expenditure reporting
• Review and distribute monthly financial statements to appropriate team members
• Analyze general ledger accounts and explain findings to financial and non-financial parties
• Prepare journal entries for month-end and year-end adjustments
• Interact with external auditors during testing and prepare schedules for the annual audit
• Review expenditures and apply sales and use tax as necessary
• Maintain accuracy of assigned general ledger accounts
• Record weekly payroll totals and resolve discrepancies with Human Resources
• Identify potential changes for efficiency improvements in current processes
• Prepare and file state personal property returns
• Track and confirm payment of state real estate tax returns
• Maintain state and federal quarterly estimated payments and assist with final returns mailing
• Act as a backup to other accounting personnel, including cash recording and sales tax return preparation

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
• Experience with accounting software programs
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Access, and Google Products
• Proficient in the use of Excel

• General knowledge of sales tax administration
• Skilled in PowerPoint or Slides
