About the position

The Staff Engineer, Mechanical Design 1 position at Celestica involves leading mechanical engineering assignments related to hardware products and systems. The role focuses on developing new products, updating existing ones, and sustaining current products while ensuring design profitability and manufacturing efficiency. The successful candidate will work independently and collaboratively within cross-functional teams, providing technical support and mentoring junior engineers, while maintaining a strong understanding of industry standards and trends.

Responsibilities

  • Interface with potential customers to define their needs and present technical proposals.
  • Ensure proposals meet requirements for design and manufacturing profitability.
  • Serve as the lead mechanical engineer on critical projects.
  • Provide design and development feedback on projects and schedules.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for design and documentation of assemblies.
  • Apply engineering knowledge to develop new technologies.
  • Work independently and in a team environment.
  • Provide technical support to business development teams.
  • Stay current on industry trends and future technology opportunities.
  • Supervise and mentor junior engineers during product development.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant experience (15+ years preferred).
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred.
  • Proficiency in using 3D solid modeling/MCAD, preferably Creo (current to at least Creo 5).
  • Proficiency with Windchill PDM.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering design, development, and production in a dynamic environment.
  • Broad knowledge of electronic manufacturing environment, materials, and processes.
  • Strong knowledge of electromechanical design requirements for telecommunications or datacenter products.
  • Extensive experience managing design tradeoffs in mechanical design, thermal management, EMC, and hardware design.
  • Strong design experience with sheet metal, injection molded parts, and thermal management technologies.
  • Prior experience with ECAD/MCAD collaboration and data transfer (IDF).
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Nice-to-haves

  • Prior experience with ORv3 racks.
  • Experience in structural analysis (FEA).
  • Knowledge of techniques for mounting large heat sinks.
  • Experience with dense cabling applications including cable backplanes.
  • Familiarity with current technology in optical transceivers.
  • Ability to operate Allegro (v 17.2 or greater) for PCB design verification.
