About the position

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated Staff Manufacturing Engineer focusing on launch production for Optimus humanoid robots. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will optimize designs for manufacturability, accelerate assembly processes, install, commission and ramp production line in Tesla factories. Responsibilities

  • Work with cross-functional teams throughout the entire product lifecycle.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Engineering, NPI (New Product Introduction), Quality and Production.
  • Develop manufacturing technology from concept to production, providing insights during product definition.
  • Create process sequences, establish critical process parameters and recipes, and formulate assembly sequences.
  • Lead the in-house development of novel, complex, innovative, and intricate prototype manufacturing equipment.
  • Manage internal and external equipment suppliers to design, install and commission production lines.
  • Work closely with the production team to ramp up the line, addressing technical issues and optimizing processes.
  • Calculate equipment capacity and line balancing to ensure optimal production efficiency.
  • Document engineering testing reports and maintain records of equipment performance, process improvements, and troubleshooting outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Mindset to apply first principles for problem solving.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Catia and AutoCAD preferred).
  • Proficiency in mechanical assembly (press fits, fastener selection, harness, etc.).
  • Proficiency in electrical integration, quality matrix, testing and troubleshooting.
  • Familiar with torque tools, fixture design, automation equipment, control systems and communication protocol.
  • Experience in transitioning products from prototype to production.
  • Able to work under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Well-organized with meticulous attention to detail.
