Staff Product Designer, Platform Ecosystem

About the position

As a Staff Designer and leader within Discord, you will define what design quality means within Discord Design and collaborate across teams to execute future evolutions of the product. You will work on the Platform Ecosystems team, partnering with UXR, Product Managers, Engineers, and Data Scientists to create intuitive experiences for app developers and users. Your role will involve combining user empathy with UX, UI, prototyping, and visual design skills to enable frictionless experiences while mentoring junior designers.

Responsibilities

• Craft the standard for visual caliber and quality on Platform Ecosystems, owning execution and production quality.
• Partner with the Platform Ecosystems Design Director to lead vision-setting initiatives, bringing diverse product ideas into a cohesive vision.
• Define and influence Platform Ecosystem's roadmap with a deep understanding of the product space.
• Share work with the broader design organization, advocating for new ways of working and creating workshops for skill development.
• Identify gaps or improvements for the design system and contribute UX and design patterns to address design debt.
• Simplify the user experience of playing an Activity using wireframes, user journeys, and prototypes.
• Influence team culture of communication through open and honest feedback.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience designing consumer-facing products.
• Experience in leading designers or teams at an initiative level.
• Confidence in executing and coaching others in design decisions and discussions.
• Compelling storytelling skills across multiple mediums, with experience pitching design decisions to executives.
• Strong communication skills to present ideas and develop product strategy and roadmaps.
• Desire to understand the 'why' before defining the 'how' for a strategic product perspective.
• High level of design craft and commitment to maintaining a high bar for design implementation.
• Portfolio showcasing primary design leadership on large-scale, high impact projects for desktop and mobile.
• Experience working with and contributing to a design system.
