The Staff Research Associate 1 (Limited Pool) position at the University of California, Merced involves performing laboratory and/or field experimental procedures in support of academically-supervised research and teaching across various disciplines. Staff Research Associates will be responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of laboratory and field instruments, which are crucial for conducting research and teaching activities. Incumbents will work under academic supervision and may report directly to a higher-level Staff Research Associate or other academic personnel. While the primary focus of the role is on research activities, there may also be opportunities to assist in teaching by discussing experimental procedures with students or demonstrating these procedures. The position requires performing standard repetitive technical laboratory and/or field experimental procedures, and incumbents will receive training in more complex procedures that necessitate a theoretical background in a specific scientific field. This position is temporary and will be reopened every six months, allowing candidates to reapply if they remain interested.
