Responsibilities

  • Provide laboratory and field support for research studies on invertebrate and surf zone fish communities.
  • Perform quantitative ecological sampling of marine biota.
  • Accurately process biotic samples and videos in the laboratory.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality through QA/QC practices.
  • Conduct quantitative field surveys of biota of sandy beaches and surf zones.
  • Work in challenging weather conditions to perform field research duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Marine Ecology or a related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in quantitative ecological sampling of marine biota.
  • 1-3 years of experience using statistical programs to generate datasets and conduct analyses.
  • Valid CA driver's license and clean DMV record.
  • University Research Diver Certification (AAUS) to 60 feet upon hire.
  • Taxonomic knowledge of local marine flora and fauna, with the ability to identify fish, invertebrates, and marine algae in the field and laboratory.
  • Experience processing video and quantitative samples of marine biota in the laboratory.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in conducting quantitative field surveys of sandy beach ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with ecological data analysis software.
