About the position

The Staff Scientist in Product Development at ScaleBio is a pivotal role focused on developing advanced single-cell solutions. This position involves hands-on product development, working collaboratively within cross-functional teams to create and launch innovative assay products that cater to various applications in the life sciences. The ideal candidate will leverage their expertise in molecular biology and product development to drive projects from conception through to market launch, ensuring alignment with customer needs and quality standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop assay products in support of multiple applications across various fields of study.
  • Guide technical research and design, execute, analyze, and interpret experiments.
  • Follow Product Development Process (PDP) methodology centered on market and end-user feedback.
  • Conceive and implement quality control methods for reagents and consumables.
  • Communicate results with colleagues and R&D management.
  • Plan, track, and drive timely execution of product development activities.
  • Collaborate with project management to organize timelines and deliverables.
  • Hire and mentor scientific team members to form a cohesive unit.
  • Identify potential risks/issues and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Work with Operations to scale up materials and processes for commercial manufacturing.
  • Plan and coordinate design verification/validation testing.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, cell biology, or closely related fields.
  • 5+ years of experience for PhD holders, 8+ years for MS degree holders in relevant fields.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams through lean product development processes.
  • Knowledge of statistical tools such as JMP for data analysis and experimental design.
  • Experience with next generation sequencing, genomics, and/or proteomics technologies.
  • Relevant experience in genomics assay development, preferably with single-cell sequencing methods.
  • Solid understanding of timelines and budgeting for product development.
  • Experience with successful launches of new products in the life science tools space.
  • Excellent communication skills and a track record of collaboration.
