About the position

Google's software engineers develop the next-generation technologies that change how billions of users connect, explore, and interact with information and one another. We're looking for engineers who bring fresh ideas from all areas, including information retrieval, distributed computing, large-scale system design, networking and data storage, security, artificial intelligence, natural language processing, UI design and mobile; the list goes on and is growing every day. As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google's needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward. With your technical expertise you will manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables. You will design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, and enhance software solutions. Statera is a platform supporting multi-single tenant (MST) Envoy proxies. These can be deployed for load balancers or as a configurable bridge between networks. The Statera Product Engineering team builds load balancing products on this platform, including Google's regional application internal and external LBs, proxy network LBs, and cross-regional internal LBs. Responsibilities

  • Work with Engineer Management to help set the direction of the team, identify new features to expand load balancing products, and work with Technical Program Management, Product Management, and SRE leadership.
  • Lead the team in designing and building systems that implement load balancing features to support cloud customers.
  • Work on both the Google Cloud control plane and the open-source data plane to deliver functionality.
  • Work with other product teams that are using our products as their foundational building block to deliver the desired functionality in L7 LB platform.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
  • 5 years of experience testing, and launching software products, and 3 years of experience with software design and architecture.
  • Experience with programming in C++.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
  • Experience with networking, and HTTP/RPC.
  • Experience with product development/feature development.
  • Experience with load balancers, proxies, Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform and competing enterprise ecosystems.
