About the position

Best Friends Animal Society is seeking a dedicated Staff Veterinarian to provide high-quality veterinary care for program animals, including pets in their care and those undergoing spay and neuter surgeries. The role offers opportunities to work in various areas such as shelter medicine, exotics, large animals, and urgent care, while promoting a culture of kindness and collaboration within the team.

Responsibilities

• Examine, diagnose, and treat program animals while upholding medical standards of care.
• Perform high-volume spay and neuter surgeries and maintain knowledge of shelter medicine.
• Support on-call and emergency response efforts, ensuring a safe clinic environment.
• Educate, mentor, and coach veterinary students, technicians, assistants, and volunteers.
• Communicate effectively with shelters and outside veterinarians regarding cases.
• Promote continuing education and stay updated on veterinary concerns and trends.
• Deliver superior customer service to visitors, adopters, and partners.
• Collaborate with team members to develop and implement efficient processes for lifesaving goals.
• Maintain a safe workplace and adhere to organizational safety practices.

Requirements

• Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM, VMD) with work experience preferred; new graduates considered.
• Licensed in good standing with the state veterinary board and DEA.
• Ability to handle various species, including those with health or behavior concerns.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a customer-centric approach.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn shelter software.

Nice-to-haves

• Bilingual or multi-lingual skills preferred.
• Equine experience preferred.
